Need front oil cooler lines...how long and what size?
 

I am going to order up some braided stainless lines for my front mounted oil cooler (An RX 7 unit modified with AN fittings.)

Where exactly do I need to start measuring from to determine length, and what's the proper size I need to fit to my oil system?

What size hose are you looking for? I have 30 feet of -12 braided hose I may sell if I end up going with -16. I paid $300 a couple months ago for the best quality -12 I could find. 30 feet may be an overkill (by about 6- 10 feet) but I decided to error on the side of too much. Either way, let me know if interested. I could sell it for $250 including shipping.

I don't see why you couldn't find a new section of tubing and just braze it in. BTW, it's about 50% flattened. It was crushed by the PO. There are some threads about heating the line up and using compressed air to "pop" out the dents, but I think it would be just as easy/good/better if you "patched" the area with new metal (less fatigue from heat and bending).

As far as the stainless, the reaction that I got, was to find some used replacement lines and not bother with the braided lines.

I never got an explaination, but I was able to find a replacement for my line...even though, I had to buy both lines, the termostat and the flexlines. I ended up biting the bullet it a bit, and now I have these parts lying around, without a home, but I'm happy to help out a fellow pelican, if I can.

Thanks for the heads up. Since I'm venturing into unknown territory with the smushed lines, it would have to be a great deal for me to pull the trigger on it...I wouldn't want to get burned (no pun intended) by it.

I was going to do my rockers this weekend, and I thought about maybe running the stainless lines through the rockers. But I would consider the hard lines if I could figure out a way to fix 'em. (Maybe hire a plumber or something....)

The hard lines are easily fixable by pressurizing the lines w/ compressed air, and using a torch to heat the dented areas until they pop out. Search the archives there are some threads on it and some have posted really good results. I haven't heard of anyone ruining or hurting a line w/ this technique.

I can get AN -12 for about 150 for 20 feet. Will that be enough to get me started, and is that the right size for typical oil lines?
