Is your 911 R.O.W. or U.S. spec?

Piggy backing somewhat off of Wayne's question about the year of your 911...How many of you own Rest of World (ROW) cars vs. U.S. spec? I suppose I should also include Japan spec but that gets too confusing (at least for me ). I expect that U.S. spec will be the large majority but I am curious to see how many R.O.W. (Euro spec) cars show up.

 '75 2.7s ROW.

I beleive 25 bhp more than the US and lighter - I know it's not a competition and I don't mean it to sound that way but it does mean that I can have more power and less money spent. It makes little odds really - in the US cars are cheaper so maybe a faster model is cheaper over there so we end up with more of a mph/dollars(pounds) spent equilibrium in the end.

Wckrause, That would be me. I have a small model making bussiness and a shop in eden prairie. We have a spray booth, not a walk in, but big enough to do some of the panels. When it comes to spraying the final color and clear I am not sure if I will do it or have a friend of mines cousin do it in a shop out in lorreto. I understand they have a nice down draft booth. The guy use to work for collision center as a painter and now sells paint products. Thanks for your response to my quarter windows thread. If you find the info let me know. Thanks, Joe

I have brought this subject up before. Surely a Euro spec car is defined by it's chassis number denoting the market for which it was built, not by the amount of options fitted? Some cars supplied in Europe and especially ROW vehicles were fitted with air, sunroof etc. That doesnt make them US spec. Differences were in the power output, emissions control, side light repeaters and rear indicator lens colours and probably a load of other parts not visible. Come on guys, shoot me down on this one!

Mine started as a '74 US Carrera. I'd LOVE to have a Euro as I, too, "prefer my sports cars fast and light." Keep the smog junk, giant strytted bumpers, and A/C! Thanks again for all your help, Uncle Sam. Nick, I think there were quite alot of differences to the US cars due to DOT regulations - ride height, heavier bumpers, thick safety glass, etc.... I'm would guess the exact types of differences changed somewhat from year to year.

My '81 ROW Targa was a lightly optioned originally purchased in Germany and imported to the US in about 1985. I don't know the history of the import process (individual or commercial) but whoever did the federalization steps really did a hack job. The electrical wiring in particular. Oh well, I have to admit I got the SC in '99 at a very reasonable price because of the wiring issues that the PO did not want to deal with and was honest enough to point them out. Mostly corrected now. I do like the stronger motor.

I'm another Minnesota ROW owner. Mine came almost directly from the factory by the original owner. He appears to have bought it through a company that handled factory delivered cars and then imported them for the purchaser. I didn't start out looking for a Eurospec, but I sure am happy having one. Light weight and more power, doesn't that just about say it all? MRM

Interesting results. I am a little surprised at the number of R.O.W. cars. Either no one cares that much about my poll (very likely ) or we have many more friends around the globe on this board than I imagined. Of those with R.O.W. cars that responded, I wonder how many are in the U.S. vs. those in Europe or other places around the world.

OK, I have a US Spec car. With the tight smog laws in California, I'm afraid to modify it much. I have to admit, I often think about putting Euro P/C on it (if it ever needs a rebuild). I too was surprised by the poll results so far. Are the ROW's just jumping at the chance to brag a little Come on US owners, just vote

My '78 SC was delivered at the factory and imported in '85. It has no options other than auto-heat. No power windows, no sunroof, no A/C. I love it.

My '84 RoW was bought originally in Gemany and federalized at Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville in late '85. My RoW was pretty heavily optioned, as it has auto heat, A/C, power mirrors, power windows and sunroof. Even with the extra weight, I love my RoW!!! Mike
