Strange protrusion from under clutch

I removed my tranny yesterday. I noticed this well lubricated bar with a gear on the end sticking out. It looks like it is the bar that the clutch fork swivels on. But why did it fall down? It definitely wasn't sticking out when I disconnected the clutch cable, spring etc before the drop.

Is this a problem?

I am a newbie mechanic.

Thanks!

looks normal to me. the long arm probably slipped off and exposed it for all to see.

SP2:
Add your year to your signature; it helps.
If it's an SC, there is a good schematic in the Bentley 301-5 showing the various parts/bushings, etc.
Check the bushings/seals, replace if needed and use lube on re-assembly.

Gunter,

My signature does have my year on it. But I list 2 cars, and it is the 1981 SC that I am working on. I am looking at Bentley 301-5 now. Thanks. I didn't realize that it protrudes that much. JW also explained it to me. Thanks!
