Idle Adjustment

My 75 911S (2.7) is idlying a little to high, meaning around 1100 rpm, so I would really like to turn it a touch down. The technical book that I have is saying that there is supposed to be a screw for this and that you will find access to this screw through the fan?? I have tried to locate the screw, but even when I use a flash light I can't find it. Can anybody tell what the exact location is of this screw??

Further more the book advises not to adjust the rpm yourselve since this is apperently a difficult job?? Has anybody some experience in adjusting the idle??

By the way some pictures of my Sliver Anniversary 911s can be found on: http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/joogie/my_1975_911s_silver_anniversary.htm

Thanks.

I remember reading about that screw in the Haynes manual being in the fan. I was never able to find it either. The screw that I used to adjust my idle speed is the speed screw to the left(driver side) of the throttle body. I forget which way (clockwise or counter) is to slow it down but I'm sure you'll be able to figure that out. Strange thing for me is that it idles at ~600 rpm cold and ~1000 rpm warm. Good luck!

Thanks Jef, that's what I figured! My idle rpm is also varying. Around 1100 rpm when could and sometimes around 1500 rpm when warm. Will adjust idle this afternoon.

The idle adjustment through the fan that your manual describes may refer to the idle mixture adjustment on the MFI cars. It is accessed through the fan. Yours probably has no such device.

Two things you may wish to bear in mind are:

*A lot of books tell you the wrong information.

and

*Those with this fault will usually say that you should get a garage or 'professional' to fix the problem.

I half suspect that the latter is due to the authors of the manual having no actual idea what to do either...and are just passing the buck.

I've come to the inescapable conclusion that Porsches are nice to repair, and not particularly difficult with a bit of skill. Get hold of the factory books/manuals or ask lots of questions. You can do it!!!
