Fuel sensor resistance wire

The metal guide wires on the fuel sensor of my 69 911E have snapped but the rest of the unit is OK. Here I am referring to the metal wires; not the copper one.

For the fuel gauge to indicate the correct level, I assume that I must replace with guide wires with the same size and type of resistance wire. The wire looks to be about 38 gauge.

Does anyone have any experience in replacing these wires, and, if so, what type of wire did you use?

Thanks in advance,

never rebuilt mine.

The unit seems to be engineered to fail so I just spent for a new one with the up-graded rubber gasket. I can imagine one issue leading to another etc.
