Porsche GT1 Built on 911 Chassis!

saw this on ebay, the description says 1973 gt1 and also says the suspension is mostly 930 parts so im assuming its a 911 chassis. the craftsmanship is superb on the rep.

You know I've often wondered something. I've got an empty 73 shell here getting ready to become an track/street car. The entire rear firewall and seat area has been replaced by the PO with a combinantion of aluminum and galvanized. What would happen it I flipped the engine around and built a fire wall behind the seats with a window ala GT1? Would they kick me off the track or force me to race with the big dogs?

That's a nice car, to bad about the Chevy engine though.

I get it..but I don't get it.

Looks like a blast to drive, impecably turned out, looks like a few $ invested. After you build something like that, why sell it? Certainly not to make money...I guess at the buy it now price of $225K he'd make money, but it won't bid that high.

hm!

Why does it have a center console? How does that make you go faster?

Nothing wrong with a well turned out V8, but for that kind of money I think he would've been better of with a hot 930 motor in there. 500HP would be no problem and I'm sure that would bring it much closer to his asking price.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love a great V8. That is the world that I grew up in....

But I do agree with you, a much better value would have been a hoped up 3.3T motor....

First thing I saw. Those headers. I'll have to go look at my GT 1 poster. For some reason I think the real deal is much nicer and certainly more refined. I don't care what the seller says, it's still like buying a Ferrari Daytona fiberglass car. Bottom line, it's not a Daytona.

Looking a 2nd time, he totally missed it on the rear end, lower center.

Very cool...

But look at the angle of the drive shafts. Looks like the rear wheels needed to be 5 inches farther back, or the engine 5 inches farther forward. I would have thought that a PROPERLY ENGINEERED car would start with the drive shafts and CV joins all lined up when the car is in a settled neutral position. Running 500 +HP and gobs of torque through CV joins at that angle is asking for trouble... Comments?

I'm not even familiar with the 'GT1" - was it a factory race-car?
IMHO, it's fugly, more Darth Vader than anything. But to each his own, the guy poured his life into it. And I'm sure it's fast as hell. Boy, for 225K I'd look into a CGT, that I'm familiar with.

it won le mans for porsche a while back so it is quite important in the racing history/heritage of the company.... though it looks a bit different when "real"

also flipped in the air couple of times also making its own headlines
