Mine just fried last week and I called or e-mailed about 15 different companys to locate one for and six pin 89 turbo, I would imagine a 12 pin would be more common.
I called Zimms and they do not stock rebuilt units anymore. They ask that you send your non-working unit for rebuild (they got to many cores back that could not be rebuilt). They told me they then send it to an ex-Texas Inst. EE who rebuilds them and sends them back out. The cost is $120.00 to rebuild. They will test unit for $15.00 plus shipping. Mine powered up a squealed but had no trigger pulse. Early S Man (Warren) posted a thread on this BB that was a great help. It pointed out that just because it powers up doesn't mean it will recieve or send a trigger pulse, that was the case with mine. I had a difficult time finding any OEM units that I could purchase. I found a used one at www.carquip.com, I had to call because the CDI unit wasn't listed on their web site. They had a test fixture and tested my old unit, it was bad, they showed me the used unit working. They did require that I give them the old unit. They also have someone to repair them locally. If you call them you might be able to work out a deal, their nice guys. They are 10 miles from my house if you need me to run over and check anything out for you. All the new ones I found were from $600-$1020. Mine ran $275, I was worth the extra $'s to me to do a hand to hand exchange. I would say your best bet is to contact places that sell used parts. Sorry I'm so long winded, I hope this helps. Todd Steele Austinmk3@aol.com |

Jer,
Todd's link doesn't work, but that is the correct URL. It worked when I typed it in the address box in Netscape for me! Try the following link: http://www.carquip.com/ Just in case you want to talk to them (they never answered an email I sent them several months ago about a gearset availability) by phone, it is: 303 443-1343 ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

jer-
I just got back on-line this morning. Looks like Warren got you straight. I tried the link also and can't connect. I'll find out what the scoop is latter this week, I have to go over and pick up a tach (If I can't find a better deal on getting one repaired). This is not a high end shop by any means. It was 5 guys crammed in one office, a three bay garage, and lots of indoor storage. They must be doing something right, I've been driving by their site for the last 10 years (never need to stop until I bought the car last year). Like I said, if I can help give me a call... |
