Valve Guide appearance
During the process of removing my throttle bodies I had a peek inside the heads through the ports to see what was hiding in there.
What I saw was reasonably clean heads with little build up if any of carbon on the backs of the valves or ports themselves. The valve guides looked reasonably clean and new, so my question is obvious: have these been done recently? I don't have any receipts for this work, but you never know in an old car that has come half way around the world! The guides are a very light goldish colour- very light. There are small machining ridges all along their visable length, like they have been turned on a lathe. The last 2-3 mm is tapered down toward the valve. On a couple of guides there looked like a slight ring of fresh head metal exposed around the circumference of the guide. It looked to me like they had been done not too long ago, but I'm not sure. Does anyone here know what the original valve guides looked like before they changed the material.....or what the new ones look like? I can't find any pictures of comparisons, even in the Maestro Anderson's creation. It would be excellent if they were new as it would save me a bundle. I was going to do a top end job inc. valve guides in the near future. 92k miles so far. ------------------ '72 911 TE |
