Is this the same oil line? Back dating 75S with SSI - Help
I'm kicking myself because I could have had the metal line yesterday and be on the road today if I had come to this realization earlier! The question is - I have a 1975 911S that I'm backdating the exhaust to SSI and M&K. My flexible line that comes off the auxiliary oil tank is new and looks the same as the one Pelican lists as the one you need for the backdating procedure (part # 911-107-728-00-M20). I hate to order another one if mine is the same. The flexible black part on mine is 8 1/2" long. Other than length - I can't see what any other difference would be. The picture on Pelican part looks like mine. It even lists it as 1973-1977. I would appreciate some back up on this. Anybody out there know for sure? I've included a pic of mine.
Thanks in advance, Shayne ![]()

Well - I'm going to give the answer to my own question in the hopes it will help someone searching this in the future. It is the same hose and works perfectly.

gmund,
I am going through the same thing right now. I am backdating the exhaust on a 1975 911s to 74 heat exchangers and 2 in 1 out muffler. The Pelican web site says: Oil Line Update: It is important to note that all cars with cross-over exhaust systems (all 1978-89 911SC and Carrera) require the replacement of two oil lines with two older-style ones when installing the SSI heat exchangers (or any 1974 and earlier exhaust). These lines are part numbers 911-107-728-00-M20 (NO front-mounted cooler) OR 911-107-729-10-M20 (WITH front-mounted cooler) AND 911-107-739-10-M20 and are available for purchase below. I bought the 911-107-739-10-M20 pipe which is the metal pipe that crosses over the transmission end of the engine. The original metal pipe ran across the muffler end of the engine. The new metal pipe terminates next to the engine oil cooler - much farther forward than the old pipe. Part number 911-107-728-00-M20 is the one I have not bought yet - it should be a flexible pipe much longer than your original one shown in the picture. You say the original short flexible pipe works? Is that right? I haven't got that far yet, but it looks too short. Please clarify.

I thought the same thing - but the original flexible line is about an inch longer than it needs to be actually (no problem though - it just flexes upward a little). The trick is that the flexible line is reversed with the metal elbow end now attaching to the new shorter metal pipe instead of the oil tank. The new metal line shoots directly from where it connects to the case straight across the backside of the engine and meets up with the reversed flexible line. You will know if you have it in the right position because there is a metal tab welded to the new metal line that attaches to an existing sheet metal bolt to help secure the line from vibration. I'm including a picture of my flexible line in the new reversed position. This shot is taken from the angle of looking in from the passenger side rear wheel well with the tire removed. The new metal line is not installed yet in this picture. When I did the final install I connected the new metal line to the flexible line before attaching to the car so I could really snug the connection together.

Thanks Shayne - you just saved me $50. Now all I have to do is figure out how to lever the middle exhaust pipe back into position so I can install the passenger side heat exchanger and I'll be set.
