Boiling oil sound. Help me before I beat her up.. bad

Playing, fixing your baby is a hobby for most of us. I repaired/upgraded most of the stuffs in my cars. Sometimes I even repair/replace things just because a guy on the discussion board did. And it turn out that I break something else. All this, I still have my car and love it... but this time is too much. She makes me start to feel like to divorce.

3 or 4 weeks ago I drove home from over 100 miles away without clutch. With a lot of help from this board, it turn out that it was the slave cylinder. I replaced it. Didn't work. I took it out again. It was broken. Yes, the new one was broken. The internal parts felt out. I packed it up carefully and installed it again. Now I can shift but I found that my flip slantnose headlight doesn't flip up anymore. From this board, again, I found a way to flip it up manually but I ripped several parts and also my fingers.

I also found the battery was dead, maybe because the hood was up for quite a while and I didn't turn off the under hood lights. I charge the batery up and left the car running for less than 10 mins max. Oil temp increase to the center area. I turn off the car. It's dark already and quiet, therefore I can hear a weird noise in the rear. I came back there, got down, look and listen. The sound I hear is like oil is boiling inside the engine case. Yes, oil is boiling in there for couple mins (not coupld seconds) after the engine is shut off. IS THIS NORMAL?

Also I found that my car is leaking now. The leak is in the front corner of the left engine. It look like oil comes from above, and run along the front edge of the lower valve cover.

I packed up and quit for the day. I have had enough. I love her but she doesn't treat me well. If someone can give me $5k, you can have her. Don't forget to ad a 0 to the end. One 0 is enough.

I have the same problem - boiling and leaking at same location. Same year, except not a wide body (not that it matters). I too would like to know what is going on.

I do not think that your oil is "boiling". Oils really do not boil in the way water does. Oils instead are rated by their "flash point". The flash point is where there are enough vapors to ignite over the liquid. Almost all oils today have flash points above 400 degrees F. So 10 minutes of idling is not going to get close to that temperature. What you are probably hearing is the oil as it drains from the tank back to the sump. Just one of the noises that our wonderful cars make as they cool down.

Ok, last night I ripped parts in the headlight buckets and also my fingers to manually lift the light up. I quit after found the boiling oil and leaking at the front of the engine. Today, I started after work again. First thing I revisit was the headlights and found that they are ok now. They fixed themselves. I then jacked up the rear and start the engine. Finish a cigarette and wait for it to leak again, but it decided not to leak. And sound great without the boiling noise. I wait again for the oil temp get up to the middle, the same level as it was yesterday, still no problem. I then clean up and went inside.
Thanks god.

jstobo,
I hope that was it but today I don't hear that sound anymore. And also no more leak.

So sometimes it break itself and it also fix itself.
umm... I need something to eat now.

Thanks for comments.

rnin,
I have found Fram oil filters make a "gurgling" sound in my '85 Carrera.
I replaced the Fram with a Mahle, end of "gurgling".

I seem to remember people talking about a "gurgling" sound when they shut their car off. You might want to search "gurgle" or "gurgling" and see what comes up.
