Leak around Front Oil Cooler - anything to watch out for?

Hello all,

I've been getting a drop or two on the garage floor after drives near the front oil cooler. The car is an 85 3.2 Carrera. I am thinking of replacing the flexible rubber hoses that connect the front oil cooler and supply / return lines.

The hoses are shown in the pic (pic from our host's parts page)

They seem simple enough to replace, but I wanted to ask the experienced before doing it - are there things I should look out for or anticipate?

I plan to remove the right front wheel, unscrew the hoses and replace. I do not plan to drain oil, as I'd guess that with the engine cold and the position of the hose, there won't be much oil there anyways. I will have some newpaper underneath, though.

Thanks for your advice.

Porsche Crest

Be careful. I had mine done a few years ago by a Porsche mechanic.. The fitting of the oil line was corroded to the oilcooler threads. It cost me a new cooler ($$$$$).

Thanks Kees. I hope I don't have to change the cooler... I guess I'll have to remove the hoses to find out.
