Repairable Heater Blower? (pics)

Hi folks,

Just took out my heater-blower assembly, and found that the cage wasn't attached to the motor. I can't figure out how it was supposed to be attached in the first place, am I missing a component - is this fixable?

Here's what it attachment on the cage looks like:

And here's the motor:

Bonus: anyone know when the motor is activated? Does the car have to be on, and the heat levers all the way up?

Thanks!

Babak

That twisted piece of metal in the middle of the mounting plate is what is left of the bushing that sheared thru the shaft of the fan. The stub that is at the middle of the fan is what is left of the shaft. You need a new motor/fan unit, available from our host. Or do a search for options for mounting a Grainger motor to the fan housing.

Bonus ?....Yes, the car needs to be on and the levers up (actually the fan should start with just a little movement of the levers).

Good Luck
Andrew

On some of the cars, depending on the year, the fan is always on with the ignition.

Thanks for the info folks - guess it's probably not worth super-gluing the axel together. =)

I have one as well if you need it, if you don't take Chris up on his generous offer. Backdated and I had a perfect working fan at the time.

For those of you with perfect working fans that have been removed,

(please test them with 12 volts and make sure no howl or bad bearings, like the used one I bought, put on my engine, and now it howls with bad bearings. groan)

I'll send you $50 for your fan motor/blower housing. Shipping to 98294 seattle.

Please test your motors, or make me a counter offer and pm me with it.

I also need one for a 1984 3.2.

The previous used one I got was DOA when I received it. The upstanding Pelican refunded my money, but I still need another blower.

You can PM me with what you have......Thanks

There is supposed to be a thread on replacing the motor with a high-efficiency Granger (sp?) motor.

When mine dies, i'll pursue this route.
