Question air pump removed, but now help me plug the hole...

Wie Gehts!

ok so I took some advice yesterday and when i got home i pulled off the air pump from my 79 sc.

the back of the pump has ahose that goes down into another unit which looks a bit like a metal box or a cube. Now i just put tape over the holeto check the pressure and it is pretty minimal if at all. but I want to put a plug of some sort there. Has no threads though and it is metal. What would you recommend?

I also pulled the lower bige hose about a 3 inch diameter or so that is right below the top hose. The top one is black, and formed. The bottiome one is more aluminumyand has no clamps holding it on.

on the driver side by the way. What are these hoses/tubes?

Thanks!

I took the smog pump out of my '79 and didn't plug anything up. Maybe I should...

I removed my air pump and there was only one 3/4 hose on it. The other hoses on the driver side are for the heating.

I used 2 metal washers just slightly bigger than the hole, one below and one above, held together by a short bolt. Sprayed the bottom with 3M Undercoating in a can just to seal it.

Not concourse but it does the trick.

Ok, maybe I posted too quickly. I thought you had removed everything including the metal tubing (also called a spider) under the car which goes into the injectors in the engine block.

There was a recent good post on this with pics over on Rennlist (am I allowed to mention them?)

well the project may be ongoing. We'll see if I get past emissions. not california so it may not be as strict.
the device that the air pump hose goes into is the Diverter valve. But then the diverter has a little 1/4 inch tube that goes into the engine somewhere. I may leave the diverter on and plug that hole with a rubber plug of some sort. Need to go to Home Depot to see what they got... I was told to watch out for creating A Vacuum leak.

I got a can lid from some peas or something and used a great hand can opener that left an ultra smooth rolled edge.

Painted it black semigloss and rtv'd the edges and stuck it down over the hole.
