Post more about the '79 911sc smog pump removal situation....

Okay, So here is where i'm at: I removed the smog pump/air pump and I plugged up the hole in the diverter valve. I poked around under neath the back of the car and noticed that this odd little part (Diverter valve) seems to be attached to something under the car. some long metal tube that winds it's way toward the middle of the motor/ and the other hole on the diverter valve is just a open space that goes under the car. So I tried to undo the bracket that held on the air pump but could not because the diverter valve is in the way. So I'm a bit put off because I'm worried that if I were to just plug off the diverter valve, it may not pass emissions. and that this may make the car run weird since I've now read that this could be problematic. i am talking about a book called: PORSCHE 911 BUYERS GUIDE BY RANDY LEFFINGWELL. (page 108) It says originally owners believed that without the air pump the car performed better but over time the performance deteriorated without the system in working order. So maybe it's best to buy a remanned air pump and hook it all back up. But before I do I have to replace that left heater hose because I really cannot reach it with the air pump on!

I just am not 100% sure how this system works. Whats with the steel tubing iattached to the diverter valve? and if i plug that off how will it affect the vacuum?

When I bought my 78 the smog pump didn't have the belt on the pulley. The pump was removed and I've never had any problems that were directly related to the removed pump.

OPkay. I seem to be good on my deck lid strut issue/

I went to Home depot and bout 10mm 2 inch bolts. Bought rubber washer and lock washers and a few nuts. I bought two struts from our host. On the driver side I put the bolts through with the first strut where the strut goes and on the outside of that strut I put a few spacers on the bolt and the other streut. It works like a charm!
