First Road Trip Questions

I am buying my first Porsche. It's an '86 coupe that is located about 250 miles from my home. The car is in very good shape, just had a major service and sailed through the ppi.

My preference is to catch a flight, then drive the car home. I purchased a dme and fuel pump relay for the glove box and 'just in case'.

Since my knowledge and experience with these cars is limited, is it reasonable for me to expect to be able to drive the car home vs a trailer? If so, should I plan to take anything else with me as 'just in case' items? Thanks.

Porsche Crest

How about a couple (only a couple mind) of beers and a spare fan belt.

Have a good trip, Mike

If I can drive a 73E almost 6,000 miles, and RoninLB can take his 77 911S on a road trip of over 10 kmiles, your 250 mile trip in an 86 Carrera is just a walk in the park. The relays and a spare fan belt, fuses, AAA card and a cell phone should ensure a worry free ride home. Oh yeah...Congrats on your new purchase!

What Jim said. Back in April a friend of mine and me drove a '63 356 1200 miles back home through a snow storm.

That's what I did (500 miles), and I didn't even know what a DME relay was at the time

Thanks, I'm sold. I bought it to be a driver, so I will drive it.

I drove my '74 911 to FL and back this past March (3300 miles). Enjoy and take plenty of pictures and take advantage of this time to get to know the car and it's quirks. Drive safely!
