Half Price Oil Pressure Sender

Just in case anyone has popped their oil pressure sender recently and either can't locate one from Porsche or feels like saving some money, the replacement VDO sender for my 1972 model (0-140 on the instrument face)was kindly supplied by the local VDO dealer at approximately half the price of the (in this country) unavailable 'original' item.

It took him a while to match it up- about 45mins and he had to resistance test the gauge, so I'll save you guys time and hassle by this:

On main body of unit- 1 521 001 909A 0400

On packet- 360.002

on 17mm 'nut' - 0-1000kpa, 10940, 0-150psi, 200.
those numbers were on each face of the nut.

It looks identical to the original 901 part except for a plastic connector base on top of the unit.

Advice: don't accidentally short it out

Matt,
How much was the VDO guy able to sell it for? It seems the going rate is about $50-60. If it was less than that, do you have a telephone # for ordering?

I seem to need a replacement. As for shorting it out -- don't ask...

Mark, I'm not sure a phone number would do you much good unless you like international phone bills....

But, our New Zealand dollars are worth about half as much as yours, and I ended up paying around $75 NZ from the VDO agent as opposed to over $150 from the Porsche guys, all of whom were unable to locate one. That was partly the driving force behind looking elsewhere.
The other part was extreme irritation at the part having "failed" so easily. It only took seconds to realise my mistake, and then a ten minute phone call to realise it wasn't the 5 buck part I thought it was!

Look up in your local phone book, there will most likely be a number for a VDO specialist. They are unable to match them directly to Porsche part numbers, hence the delayed success.

I'll not ask how you cooked yours, but I can well imagine, believe me....
