Fiberglass
For those of you that have used fiberglass panels, such as rear flares. What did you use to attach the panel to the body, I heard there are some epoxy resins that work very well. Also, did you just lay the panel over the metal and blend it in or did you put a crimp on the edge so the fiberglass panel would be flush the the panel you are attaching it to. I dont want to user fiber, but I want to buy an SC, so I dont want to spend to much on my project-for fun car.

I'm "not-sure" exactly what you are speaking of but maybe this will help. On my car there are fiberglass rocker covers with the air vents built in (not boxed rockers). They mount semi-flush to the stock metal ones. I had a body shop epoxy some metal tabs onto the back of each rocker cover that then bolt onto the stock rockers. Drilling holes is required. I had no idea how to do this right, that's why I contacted a body man. They know all the tricks. This method allows you to pull the glass part into correct contour, other methods might not hold up for the long haul. This was done 2 1/2 years ago and all is still as it was when first installed. I thought about glassing the tabs on for added strength but this method seems to work as well.
Edit - after re reading the post I see what you're after. You use rivets. Prep the area, line up the pannel, rivet it on, glass it in, grind off the rivet heads, smooth it out and primer. Obviously there is more to it than this outline, you get the idea. [This message has been edited by RarlyL8 (edited 08-08-2000).] |
