SC Bentley Manual... Fact or fiction?

Has anyone actually heard anything from Bentley about the rumored SC specific manual that I have heard could be available this fall?
The more I read, it the less I like my Haynes manual. I would really love to have a more modern and "specific" book for "my" car. I hate the price, but oh well.
Anyone????

Fact. I called them. I may call them again soon. The SC manual should be out pretty soon. I am very excited about this. I have a Bentley manual for Volkswagens, and it is a whole new ball game compared to haynes. Like the difference between a Porsche and a Yugo. I don't like the price either, but will gladly pay it for a Bentley. My $0.02.

"Bentley . . . ask the man who owns one."
Oops, not exactly accurate, but Bentley manuals are just about the best there is, maybe even better than the factory manuals because it is not geared towards factory trained techs and does not have a lot of info you'll never need.
Even at $150, if the Bentley manual is like their manuals for other cars, its a no-brainer for anyone who is planning on working on their SC. Its simply the best money you can spend on your car (and you!)
Just my opinion.

Whoever hears about availability, or preordering first, please post. I too want to get my hands on one of these books.

Just a note on Bentley manuals.

From my experience there are two types. The best Bentley manuals are the ones where they have actually gone through the car and written procedures for every system they R&R. This is typically what one expects of a repair manual.

However, in some cases of limited production cars, Bentley will simply take the automaker's shop manual and reprint it for the general public. This was the case for my VW Corrado. Still a good and very useful book, but tended to be of the exploded diagram type vs the procedural type.

I'm sure the manual for the SC will be the better one and everyone should be very happy with it. But whenever buying a Bentley manual it's good to know what kind you are getting.

Well, guys & gals ... I've got the Bentley manual on order, and it should be here either next week, or maybe the week after, according to Ms. Jennifer in customer service.

In case you're wondering why I ordered it ... there were two reasons:

1) Curiosity ... to see if it is as good as the 'old' Bentley air-cooled VW manuals, compared to the factory sets

2) 915 Transaxle info ... hoping it is significantly better than the factory info ... which leaves a LOT to the imagination, to put it politely!!!

I will post a review ... later!

Thanks for the link - not heard of Bentley before. Couldn't see a reference to an SC manual, though, only a Carrera 3.2.

I'm considering buying the six-volume factory manual at £325 in the UK : eek

Is it worth hanging on for a Bentley manual – it'd much cheaper, but maybe not as good. I've got the Haynes which is pretty poor.

Any thoughts welcomed!

I'm confused. This started as a thread about SC manuals, but all the talk is of a Carrera manual.

Can anyone tell me if an SC manual is/will be available.

Thanks!

Folks, let us know how those Bentley manuals are - I'm interested in not spending $120 on something I don't need or want. It looks interesting though!

Does this book cover CIS fuel injection?

I can't remember if the Carreas were equipped with it (the later ones, obviously).

If so, then I too will order this book, since as Warren points out, the transmission, transaxle, and many other systems are not that different on older cars such as mine.

I called Bentley direct on the 800 line....the Carrera book for the 84 and up model year is available NOW....but the SC book for the early models has no planned release date....it may not even be in the works.

Well Dawg gonnit. I called them too and was told the SC version will be out in early Fall. They need to fess up and tell us the bad news OR the good.

I have used the Bentley manuals that are largely reprinted from other sources like factory manuals, and they have been just excellent too. Candidly, I have looked through the Porsche Factory Manuals and expect the Bentley to be better in some ways.

Carreras (3.2 liters) have Motronic injections systems, qiute different from CIS as I recall. There are most excellent CIS books out there though.

Okay, I just e-mailed Bentley and will post the response.

Why do I get the feeling that the answer you get from Bentley depends on which clueless, minimum wage earning, tele-twerp you talk to. Like when you call Automotion and need some technical advice and the person on the other end can't even "speel" Porsche much less help you out. I'm very interested in the outcome of this. God, I hope they are making an SC book...
I'm getting very excited about rebuilding my engine and from what I've heard so far, the Bentley book would be a great asset.
