RJM3,
I have installed a front mounted oil cooler on both a '78SC and a 930. I installed a 20 and a 24 inch long cooler from B&B.(It also comes with fittings and oil lines) Use the 24 inch long model. The price of the 20 and 24 inch models are the same but the longer one is much easer to install with out modifing the body. The 20 inch model requires the corner of the front trunk area to be dented in to get the oil line fittings around the corner of the outside of the trunk. The 24 inch model is longer than the opening in the valence but it fits perfectly without modifing the body. You have to make your own brackets. I used angle brackets to make my own. If I do another I would make a flexable bracket, perhaps out of hinges. If I hit a curb or an object in the road, i'm afraid of breaking the cooler. I would rather have the cooler fold back than have it break. Bob W. |

I bought mine from guys at www.imagineauto.com. It was just under $700 for the 24 row one mentioned in the previous post. Do you have a front spoiler with an appropriate opening for the cool air? Mine was installed similar to the previous post but I have the Ruf style spoiler. Good luck, it is an excellent addition.

I just did this to my 74 911. I got the oil cooler and the thermostat from Pelican Parts. I think they can supply the hose kit as well, but I used aircraft steel braided lines that we use here at work. (read "free")
I went with the Mocal cooler and T'stat because of the price and I am not trying to keep my car concours. The hoses are so much easier to deal with and are a fraction of the price of hard lines. If they're good enough for aircraft they're good enough for a Porsche. Everything was included - the bracket was already mounted to the cooler and required just a little work to get it to fit so that the oil lines would hook up. The fittings are all MS AN so you'll need to get the 30MM to -12AN adaptors to hook up to the engine and oil tank. The result was a 45 degree drop in oil temps. Well worth the effort. I added a Pelican scoop as well and it dropped the temps another 10 - 15 degrees while running. I have all of this on my web site with digital pictures at : http://members.rennlist.com/5150targa or at the Pelican Tech Articles :http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911tech_articles.htm Under External Oil Cooler Installation If you need any help just email me.
