Matching numbers
I am looking at an early 911 and wonder how to know whether engine and chassis are matching? The numbers are VIN# 119300728 & Engine # 6390997. Is there a plate which would have the orginal #s and one could verify the engine #?
Thanks in advance, |
Chassis is 1969 911"S" Targa.
I don't have my engine number ranges here. Someone else probably does.... |
I don't think there is anything on the car that will indicate the specific engine # that was placed in that specific chassis. A spec book will tell you if the engine that is currently in the car is an engine that COULD HAVE (i.e. if it is the proper year and type) come originally in that car, but will not tell you if one specific engine was placed in your chassis.
You can, however, get a Cardex from Porsche that will tell you the specific serial number of the engine that was originally in the chassis. I think that is what you are asking? I guess the simple answer to your specific question is: No. There is no plate on the car that will have the original VIN number AND the original engine serial No. |
Thanks Jim T - that was what I was wondering. About the 911S Targa - the vehicle is a coupe??

Yep, confirmed '69 911 "S" coupe. Sorry I misread Bruce Anderson's chart.

Porsche has chassis & engine number info on their own site, here:
