weber carb water cover question
Why did someone cut a (square) hole in these covers (see pic attached). Are they ruined? I am considering having them rechromed unless they need to be replaced.
Thank you. Regards, ![]() Edit:The 6 small velocity stack type parts are at the plater. I have to complete the lots so he can start plating, so I asked here if someone knows if the cutout is ok. Appreciate it.

Not sure about the cutout, but it's in an area that provides protection against water drops, the rainshield portion. I wouldn't worry about it. You can mount this end facing the engine bulkhead to limit its visibility and/or rivet in a patch. I don't think this area gets as wet as the area directly under the grill.
The more important part is the flat area that sandwiches and seals the filter openings in conjunction with the mounting plate; I assume you have. The hole in the side is for a crankcase vent return hose connection. As for alternatives, there's the factory stock plenum, ITG, variations of the K&N you have (flat tops) and the CF replicas someone is manufacturing on the forum (search for CF rainshields). I recently sold a set of stamped al units made by Filtron of years past. ![]() Sherwood (btw, ITGs for sale) |

The two center pieces in your post. Yes I have those, and they do not need to be rechromed.
