Brake Rotors

I've got a warped front rotor and I'm looking at replacements. Which is better in terms of performance and long life: drilled rotors or frozen rotors?

I have seen at least one set of frozen rotors (on a dedicated track car SCCA 911) that cracked after one of the vintage races (about 30 min. long) that they hold down here (Daytona) every fall. This is my only exp with them.

BTW the races are a blast to watch (road course setup and a ton of 911's). Last year, I watched a (what I was told) "RSR America" leave the rest of the dust chokers behind...really cool!!

One of the things to consider is do you
race the car? the cross drilled and the slotted are not recommended for racing.
The post on alt.autos.911 was right, they
do tend to crack, I think that there are
ones that don't, after all Porsche does
put them on Turbos, as far as which ones
are the good ones, I'm not sure, www.tweeks.com in their catalog has an
interesting brake set with calipers and rotors by Brembo for an SC for $ 4499.95

From the way things are looking, my best bet would appear to be to replace them with OE rotors. My 911 is street-driven only and it seems that frozen and drilled have their shortcomings. I've always been happy with my brake performance anyway, this way I'll save a few bucks.

I suspect OEM is your best bet!

I find it a bit 'disconcerting' that the racers are recommending AGAINST the cross-drilled rotors ... could it be that there are some over-hyped, inferior products out there for gullible consumers?

I have personally cross-drilled four sets of rotors using a speed-reducer on my Craftsman drill press, at 75 rpm, I believe, and have had none crack over the past 16 years ... but it WAS a very slow process to do the rotors! And, two of the cars have been autocrossed, with no detrimental results!
