3.2 & 964 cam spring height
I am rebuilding the heads during a motor rebuild on a 3.2 and am installing 964 cams, can someone tell me what valve spring height I should use and what the best method / tools are needed to measure it.
Thanks |
According to the new Bentley manual, the spring height is 34.5 mm for both intake and exhaust, and it is measured with P10c, a factory-designed tool available from many sources.

Thanks Warren,
Do you know the locations that the tool measures from / between?? I have a precision vernier and micrometers etc and was thinking maybe I could take the measurements without the special tool. Not sure if the Bentley manual or factory manual indicated the points to measure and the procedure used. Any help would be most appreciated as I will be ready to rebuild soon. Thanks |
The distance is measured from the spring 'cup' that has the shims under it -- to the underside of the spring retainer. The distance is just what the description says ... the height of the outer valve spring, as it is installed on the valve, in the head. The Bentley book has a cross-section diagram, as do many other books, including the factory spec. book.
