door handles & fenders???
Q.1 I just received in the mail, from Pelican of course, a set of Door Handle Paint Protectors # PEL-911-DHPP-01. To install these, do the actual door handles need to be removed from the doors to be done right?
Q.2 Also purchased was a set of Stone Guards #C-559-321-00. Any tips on how to properly "stick" these to the fenders w/o screwing them up and having to add curb feelers and dinle-balls(j/k)just to complete this DIY job? Thanks! ------------------ Jeff 84 Carrera Cab |

I did the same thing to my SC shortly after I bought it.
Yes, remove the door panels and remove the two nuts that secure the handle from inside the door. (a flashlight is handy) then from the outside, remove the little "sticky pad cover sheet thingie" (techincal term ![]() I also did the stone guards on my car. I hope you bought the guards for the SC/Carrera and not the 930 guards. I've seen people put turbo guards on narrow bodied cars and it just dosen't look right. Anyway, I pulled back the rubber rocker trim and carefully trial fitted the guard. I eye balled it to where it looked best mainly keeping in mind the rear edge in relationship with the forward part of the wheel well. (There is some extra material that will be covered by the rocker trim) Then I used a white grease pencil to make a couple marks for fitment as I held it in place with the backing still on. There should be a bit of extra material at the bottom of the gaurd... I cut a bit off to use for the torsion bar cover. I used a piece of heavy paper to cut the rounded piece by trial and error. Once I was happy with it I just traced it onto the small piece of material I previously cut off. Only a little bit of the torsion bar shows on my SC. Your Carrera has much larger ones. You might have to do it a bit different because of this. I love the way they look (classic Porsche) and I have noticed a few very small nicks that would have been a sizable chip in the paint if it weren't for the guards. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. ------------------ Leland Pate ___79 SC Targa |

Oops...I always get you and 89911 confused.
Nevermind the part about the larger torsion bar covers. Yours is a pre-'87 car. Sorry.. "Carry on" ![]() |

Leland-
Do you by chance have a pic of your fender with the stone guards? I was just at the grocery store loading up my trunk when this GIANT suv pulled in next to me, the seasoned citizen behind the wheel let her door fly and it crashed into my rear fender, not my p-car thank god, but on my every day driver. She took the paint off, and left a big blue spot, not top mention a deep dent in my fender....I wish there was something to protect BMW's fenders that did not look too pimpy...When she saw that I had seen her cram her door into my car, I said "thanks for smashing my car," and she said "I didn't do it," to which I said "I was standing right here, check your blue door for white paint," she said she was sorry and asked what I wanted her to do, I told her forget about it, but to please be more careful with those giant freaking doors in parking lots. From the looks of her door edge, she could probably care less, there was at least five other colors of paint scratched into her door edge......gezzz, give me a break!!!!!! -Jeff |

I'll look and see if I've got a good shot of the guards.
