can I rekey ignition switch

Okay, all the locks on my car now match my keys except the ignition switch,

Can that be rekeyed?

Thanks

I was able to do this (or have it done anyhow) BUT it was a new ign. switch that I hadn't yet installed. It's a major pain to remove that switch and I wouldn't do it unless my switch failed. Since that R&R, I even went to the effort of installing a remote start button to minimize wear on the switch in the hope of never having to do the ign. switch project again.

Much easier to rekey the other lock cylinders to match the ign. switch key IMO.

getting the switch out isn't the hard part,

how did you get the lock cylinder out once the switch was out?

Do you have the 101 projects book? I believe its described there.
Or maybe a search would do you some good.
Try it, you might like it.

I contacted my local Porsche dealer and they gave me the name of the locksmith they use, who happened to be mobile - he came to me.

There is information in 101 Projects on this that may just work for you.

information on rekeying door locks does not help. Any other ideas?

Take it to a locksmith, there is a pin that needs to be drilled out, do it wrong and you wreck the tumbler. In fact I would say that it will probably be cheaper to have all your other locks changed to match your iginition as they all disassemble easily.

I have re-keyed at least 100 of these ignition lock cylinders. A little tricky but it can be done. PM me if you would like for me to do it for you. It takes about an hour.
