lost by .7 of a point!

well i have now been throughly beat up by entering into the flight 29 phx. PCA concours. lost by a lousy .7 of a point!!!!! how do i know? the winner milton w/his 1987 911 coupe was at our dinner table. found out he won wash and shine last year! found out he attended PCA concours judging school! found out his car has ONLY 33K miles on it! picked his brain and found out he has worked 1 year since the last concours detailing his car! very very little driving.

FOUND OUT HE DESERVES THE TROPHY BECAUSE HIS CAR IS CLEANER THAN THE DAY IT WAS BOUGHT! while walking around before i was judged, my son and i spied 2 cars that could quite possibly kick our A$$. miltons was one and a beautiful clone of my car w/88K miles on it. another red cabriolet.

ran into leeh another pelican and he was telling us how beat up he was after doing a concours back in atlanta. swore he would never do it again..................i can see why. these guys(judges) are GOOD................VERY GOOD!

i learned things yesterday, as well as my son, that we will never forget about a PCA concours. what a blast. what a learning curve. incredible vehicles, and best of all alot of really cool people. i wont go into details of the day, but suffice it to say...........if you havent entered your car into a concours.............you will never find out how beat up you can get and still manage a smile. more fun than a barrel of monkees. look out milton cuz next year i swear my mirror bras will not be left on, no grease under my door latch, and no dust behind my wheels! i swear i will never use another 100% cotton terry cloth towel(lint) again in my life!

another priceless experience w/my car. the dinner was great. the people were too cool, the prizes were cool. the auction was really nice. the proceeds went to the kids cancer camp. cant really ask for more bang for your buck, for spending a day doing what i and others love. broke the fun barrier is the bottomline!

i shouldnt snivil about not winning anything..................we did win the centerpiece on the dinner table. 12 of the most expensive roses i have ever bought in my life...........and worth every penny! thanks to jim patrick(patrick motorsports) his crew brandon/matt/rocky/bill. my son jim kieffner. my peudner jay bieber, his wife maureen, his son adam for stuffing the ballot box w/peoples choice ballots for me, leeh for explaining what i had gotten myself into, don my neighbor w/ the 928, my girlfriend, my producers, my director, miller lite/corona,napa auto(all of my cleaners/waxes etc.) pelican for all the parts and advice, my mother and father,my professors at school,my neighbors for putting up w/me at 2am, milton w/the beautiful 1987 white coupe, the judges, and finally i want to thank my 2 dogs who without them to talk to at 2am while detailing car, i wouldnt have anyone to sing to after a 12 pak!

When I first bought my car, I was into concours. Actually won a few after a couple of years, the last one after working on my car for over a week. It transformed the way I looked at my car and I looked at it as more an object for display and not a car to drive. Just wasn't my scene. I can assure you that the guy that won is not getting the same out of his car that a track driver does. But if that is what he is into, all the more power to him.

ditto on the winning part Charles. After competing in our regions show & shine with my 73 (125k) with many track hours and just as many stone chips, I entered my 77 930 (93k) this year and took a third in class (51 cars - all 911 based). It felt pretty darn good, I must admit. Like yourself, I did not mind losing to a better car, (79 930 with only 17k on the clock, trailered to the event)
congratulations
Bill K

Jay Leno once said, of concours cars, "Ya restore 'em to 100 point and then drive 'em back down to 70."

thanks steve, i am going to save all MY LINT for you guys in EVIDENCE BAGS! i think someone PLANTED THE LINT IN MY CAR WHEN I WASNT LOOKING! even my buddies think it was a SETUP!

LMFAO it was TOO FUN! leeh just e'd me and stated, "WITH ALL THAT LINT, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?" too funnyy we are looking at all the pics right now. heres the winners car(milton) and he deserved the trophy 110%. his car was beautiful and thats not enough of an accurate description. this truly was a great time and i highly recommend EVERYONE HERE to do it just once. you may not win, but you will come away with an appreciation of your car and others cars that really is priceless. i can only imagine how BRUTAL the pebble beach concours must be!

Chuck, that is a great writeup. It sounds like you had a blast.

What class were you entered in? I can see the judges in a certain class walking up and going "uhh, dude, you have a carbon fiber hood here." That's the great thing about an "open" class, as long as the car is clean and looks RIGHT originality is not a factor.

we were told by the local powers that be, to enter WASH N' SHINE 2. the only parameters i knew were from detailing new porsches and audis back when i was a kid at johnson bozzani porsche /audi here in phx.

so i knew it had to be really clean..............like really clean! well since my times short like everyone else, i thought i'd kick that part in the A$$ by having our detailer slap some killer high buck aircraft wax/polish/clay blah blah voodoo on the car. this is after i had detailed the hell out of it with zymol and lexol.

when we arrived at 7:30am, my son and i parked tow vehicle, and pulled 5 gal bucket of micro fleece rags and cleaners/polishes out. we went to town cleaning everything again until 9:45 when bullhorn went off to cease cleaning by PCA .

well to make long story short of myself being BEATEN INTO SUBMISSION AND DEPRESSION thinking that i was muy caliente kah kah, and having the cleanest baddest, coolest car there. here are the points the judges nailed my sorry misinformed A$$ on.

1) front spendy carbon fiber hood not aligned. judge placed pencil in btwn each side, and on one side pencil didnt fit. maybe a 1/32 of difference side to side.

2) paint chips.......we all know about those itty bitty micro ones.

3)remove mirror bras........i was a dumb a$$ and didnt know if it didnt come with car leave it off.

4) dust on INSIDE OF FUCHS!!! man i could have shaved on the exterior of my fuchs! FUCH ME!

5) dirt under seat-man i still havent found any yet today!

6)THE DREADED/EVIL/HORRIBLE/DISGUSTING/GUT WRENCHING/ balls of DEADLY LINT! from using 100% cotton terry cloth towels. and we are not talking anything more than maybe a 1/16 of the bottom of a THIMBLE of lint!!!!!

7) grease under door latch drivers side.

TOTAL SCORE FOR ME OUT OF POSSIBLE 130 POINTS- 128.7.

milton the winner SCORED 129.4 out of possible 130 perfect score. do the math.........129.4-128.7= .7 of a point!!!!!

im very interested in taking the PCA judges concours class when they have it again as milton had done. you will learn more about your car than you realize. and the really cool thing................the next time you are looking to buy one...................YOU WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO LOOK FOR and WHERE! and since my younger son is hooked on 914's, i imagine this will come in damn handy when looking for the correct car to buy.

remember i was in just the WASH N shine class..............if you really think your bad A$$ enter your car into the concours classes and find out what being under the MICROSCOPE IS ALL ABOUT!
