1996 993 running warm when stationary

Hi guys,

My 993 Targa oil temp gauge has started to climb when the car is idling in traffic and the weather is warm. When driving at normal speeds (anything above 30 mph for example) the gauge sits where it always has in all 9 years I have owned the car. Is there some sort of cooling fan that is meant to cut in when the car is idling? Any ideas? Thanks for your suggestions.

Kind regards, Keith

Yes the 993's have a oil cooler fan up front. You should check to see when you are seeing higher temps that the oil lines that run to the cooler are hot.

If the lines are cool the termostat is not opening and that could be your problem.

If the lines are warm I guess you could try and hear the fan when the temp start to rise .

I would check that for a start.

Thanks - will check that out. Hope it's just a thermostat!
