Fixing the grounds
 

Can anyone supply the information as to where all of the ground points are on a 79 SC. I have been having small electrical problems and I would like to clean these points to see if will improve the problems. The latest problem is a fast blinker, but all of the bulbs are working and they have not been recently replaced

something else to consider is the flasher relay. i cleaned all of my grounds, contact points on my '74 and still had problems until i replaced the flasher relay.

I would start with the replacement of the thick gauge ground wire under the car between gearbox and body. The cable is 2 cm wide and takes some serious beating over the year to the extent that it still looks intact but does no longer function as a proper ground anymore certainly when the car gets hot(ter).

This will not solve your fast blinker but it is the start to take I believe.

Next in order to solve the blinker I would go from cheap/easy to expensive/hard:

- Bulb (switch them over or insert new one)
- Clean ground on rear light units (take of lens, take out bulbs, screw out metal assembly and let it hang carefully over bumper.) You should see the ground at this time, I'm guessing it will look dirty and rusted, I would replace); Do the same on the other side
- Clean ground on front light units. I am unsure here but I seem to recall that I needed not only to take out the blinker but also the main beam assembly as they share grounds
- The flasher clean or replace.

I have cleaned the front left unit and I will do the right one next. I have been told that I should get all new bulbs so the all have the same resistance, but I know that the same bulbs worked weeks ago, so I will move on your next suggestion. Thanks for the assisitance since this is a new one for me!!!
