CV boot Puzzle

I am rebuilding my 85 carrera and my laims
i mean Haynes book shows clamps on the small
CV boot end around the drive shaft. The large
boot end is sealed to the bolt flange at the
factory. The puzzle is the car came to me with
no clamps.Does my 85 require small boot clamps?????//

I don't really have an answer for you except, my '85 does not have the clamps either.

The new Bentley manual does show small clamps , but I'm not sure how really necessary they are, as there isn't much 'leakage' of grease at that end of the boot, and having the boot free to flex and move tends to minimize any tendency to crack. My '73 Lobro's don't have the small clamps and there has never been a problem with them.
