Car not running well, need advice!
My '88 Carrera is running like crap and I really need some advice as to what it might be. When cruising down the road at a constant speed it runs fine but if I agressively floor the pedal it sputters and hiccups and does not accelerate. If I ease the pedal down it will slowly accelerate but with a lack of torque.
While coasting at about 45mph I pushed in the clutch and when the engine was idling I floored the pedal and it died. This seems to be more of a problem at lower rpms. The engine is due for a valve adjustment but these symptoms came on fairly suddenly. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, and had an oil change within the last week to see if that would improve things at all. There has been a lot of rain around here lately and I'm not sure if that might have something to do with it. This is really frustrating and it is even difficult to get going from a dead stop unless I really get the revs up. There is just no low end torque. Any ideas of what it might be? Please help! Thanks, Bob |
Vacuum leak or some problem with the AFM?

What is the AFM?

Air Flow Meter,

Okay, so I'm in there looking around and I found a loose hose clamp fitting on a hose that runs right by the oil filler neck. Could that be the culprit? If not, where do the vacuum lines run from and to? What do they look like?
Thanks, Bob |
