Porsche Crest CV joint covers...not boots

A buddy has a set of the cv joint covers that came on the later 915 equipped 911's. He has an 85.
Would they just fit right on my 81? Mine doesn't have them. They seem to keep more crap out of the cv.

Did you use gaskets on the flanges, Mike?

The 911 CV size was changed in 85. It was 100 mm dia with 6 - 8 mm bolts thru 84. In 85 the CV dia changed to 108 mm and used 6 - 10 mm bolts. They also did away with the gasket, Yahoo! My scanner isn't working or I'd include a copy of the Porsche bulletin.

Can i jump into this with my question (I can't figure out how to start a thread)?

I have a G5050 transaxle (87-89 vintage). The CV joints at the transaxle are the 108 mm, 6 bolt type, like the ones described. I desparately need boots that bolt onto the face, not wrap around the sides, because I have a speedo pickup that works off the side of the inner joints. The only one listed on Pelican's site is for earlier CVs. Any matching suggestions?

Thanks,

Animal

attached is a picture of the axle on your car. Please explain what you need to do.

84 and early 85 axles were the same as SC's. The change was made early in 85. I posted the picture to get a clear explanation as to what Paul is needing on his car.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a CV joint at the G5050 transaxle (it came without an axle) and I need a cover for it that bolts onto the front of the CV joint much like the one for earlier non-tubro joints. Pelican suggested that I asked the forum guys. I am mating the Porsche transaxle to a Fiero wheel assembly and have made a new axle that links the 2 together. I also have a Dakota Digital speedo sensor that works off a series of magnets on the side of the CV so the cover cannot wrap over the side of the CV (at least on one side). The picture shows a brass-colored plate which appears to overlap the sides. This could be a problem for me.

BTW, all this is connected to a 427 hp Chevy in the back of a 1964 Austin mini van.

Thanks for your help.

Paul start your own post with a specific heading. You wont find a responce too easy when asking inside a different post. Most guys wont be in this post to help. Sounds like a great project.

I can send you a couple of the covers like the far left of the picture I posted. You can cut the lip off and use it with some good RTV goop. The lip is there to contain the grease. I am assuming that you are using the inner CV from a Porsche axle. I have a pair of used (but good) axles if you need a pair to chop. Send me an e-mail. I'd like to see pics of the project.
