Porsche Crest Help me understand this 917 for $3500

I confess I don't know much about the 917, but this seems crazy. Does anyone have any idea about what this care is and what it is worth?

That looks to be a "Laser 917" kit car. Sold throughout the late 70's and 80's and bolted to a VW pan.

Here's another : http://www.geocities.com/replicaporsche917k/

I owned an Intermecchanica 356 knock off with a 2180 Type one. Very fun car and really quick. But it cost $20k. If the engine was trick like at least a 1915 and trick interior and seats, could be a fun ride. But at that price it can't be much.

LOL! I've not thought of that show for years! I used to love watching it for the car. I think that one was a Manta replica...now you got me curious to find out.

Edit: Another great use of the internet and Google!

I actually drove many hours once to look at an unfinished Manta montage once, I used to love that car!!

However, I remember (at least I think I do) reading that the Coyote was BMW powered. Who knows..

It is based on a Mclaren, the montage had a correct looking rear window and the Coyote had, well, umm, no rear window..

cheers

The Coyote was in fact a Montage based vehicle. The car was based on a VW chassis, but in the final year of Hardcastle & McCormick it was switched to a DeLorean chassis.
