What is premium for "widebody" for 993?
Talking about a '97 993, C2, how much extra would I expect to pay if she was a wide body?
Opinions anyone? Thanks you, Al S

Oops, forgot about that option, but no, not an S, just the wide body option.
Thx

I wasn't aware you could get a 993 widebody that wasn't an 'S' or a 'TT'.

Jorian is right.
The "widebody" 993s were only the C2S, C4S, Turbo and GT2 (extra wide with flares "bolted" on). |

OK then, thanks for the info, what is the premium for the S, and what makes it an S?

There is a BIG premium for the C2S. Low production numbers I guess. I really like them, but not sure I could justify the upcharge. I'm not sure if it is because they are newer and the spread will decrease over time, but right now the spread is much greater than say a regular Carrerra and an M491.

The premium for the c2s over the c2 is around 9-10k.

Didn't all 1998 C2's employ the wide body? If so, why not consider a year newer car?

Hmm, not sure about the 98's, if they're all wide bodies, but it seems there are very few for sale.
I'm not necessarily looking for a wide body, but a local one came up for sale. So, it seems that the 97 I'm gonna look at tomorrow is a conversion.......something to avoid, or "OK if it's done right.."?

Be very careful buying 911 "widebody" cars. Most of them are just body kits stuffed onto a regular 911, which decreases rather than increases the car's value.
Here's the run down: Turbo cars are slightly wider than base 911s, so turbos and factory turbo looks cars have been referred to as a "widebody". Since turbos are usually just called turbos, widebody should refer only to factory turbo look cars. The factory turbo looks have the same wide body, big red brakes, and other turbo stuff as the real turbo. The only difference is that they have the noral engine in them. The first turbo looks were 1984-1989. Then with the 993-on they stopped calling them turbo looks and started calling them "S" models. As in C2s or C4s. The "S" designates that the car has all the same equipment as a turbo, but does not have a turbo engine. This includes the wider body, bigger flairs, sexier hips, big brakes, etc. It is easy to slap a body kit on a car and call it a wide body. That doesn't make it an "S". Check to make sure it is a real factory wide body. If it is, it is a real "S" model. It will be considerably more expensive. If it is a regular Carrera with a body kit, it is worth considerably less than an original base Carrera.

and keep in mind a C4S, C2S or TT is only wider at the rear -- front fenders are the same as the rest of the 993's..

Al - I have analyzed images of the rear-end of the car you're interested in with mine (C2) and some images I downloaded of an S version and in my opinion it's not a wide body.
The fenders do not flare out near the edge like on an S!

Well dang it Snah, err, I mean Hans, you have a good eye!
That, or my eyes just plain suck... The owner said "wide body" and really had me going. It's definately not a wide body, which makes me feel a whole llot better. Here's the car; ![]() And here's a wide body;

Hi...this thread is helping me too... the "default" 993 flares are so wide that a lot of people get confused thinking a non-S is an S. For me it's easier to look for the split rear grill that accompanies the wider flares.
One question -- can someone add in the "base" price and compare: 1997 993 plain coupe $xx,xxx - $xx,xxx 1997 993 S2 = $xx,xxx - $xx,xxx (ie about 9-10k more than above). (we'll table 1988 if they are that rare). I am thinking of normal cars ie drivers, not concourse, not parked garage queens, but say nice and well-maintained and low to medium mileage. And also-- how much would these cars retain their value (ie fail to depreciate) versus a first-year 1995 993?

There are two 1997 "s" on Ebay. Search auto trader online. Do some homework. 993's are the latest and last iteration of the air cooled 911's, and many say the best 911. Everything is relative. The SC's and 84-89 Carrerra's are what many believe to be bulletproof and a relatively easy DIY car.
