New parts on an old motor
I've heard the collective wisdom that sometimes new parts on a tired old motor can create problems. Like, say, a new turbo on a tired 930 engine....
I just want to check I won't cause problems for myself adding SSIs and a new exhaust to a 170K miles SC motor ! The thing has good compression and leakdown but it's got some flight hours, and eats 1qt of oil every 2 or 3 gas tanks now, so it's no spring chicken either. Would better flow from SSIs stress this workhorse of a motor any more than the current stock system? PS: forgive me for being paranoid, but today all 4 cars I have access to are dead ! The 912 has a fuel leak in the transmission tunnel, the 911 is at the shop for a distributor check, the boxster at the dealers for some Hunter machine magic balancing, and my POS pick up truck just blew its coolant expansion tank on the way to work! What a B$%#$ of a car day !!! |

Sorry for having such a bad day - sounds like it. SSIs shouldn't be a problem. They add a little horsepower, but not enough to make a big difference and stress the engine. A quart of oil doesn't sound that much out of line either. Go for it.

I would say go for it. by themselves, those bits won't do anything to the engine, but the driver may be tempted to stress it more after installing them! All things must pass eventually...

ianc hit the nail on the head...the real problem will be your heavy right foot when you get it all installed! While you are at it...check and see if you are even getting full throttle, you might wake up a sleeping giant.
