Looking For Early 911... Help!!!!
Hi all,
I have been on a search for early(1967-1973) 911"S" cars. Must be matching numbers and prefer a nicely optioned car. The problem that I have encountered is that too many of these cars are misrepresented in any way you can imagine. I have tried all of the usual spots on the web including Traderonline, wwwheels, early911sregistry, etc. with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Marc Weintraub |

i think a good source for inquiring about P cars for sale would be the most reputable porsche service shop in your area. often they know when someone is putting a car for sale before it is advertised because the car may be in for that last tune up or prep work. and they may have more knowledge of the car since it may have always been worked on in their shop.

Marc,
How about attending the next local PCA meeting and ask around? I'm sure someone can give you some ideas on where to look. Good luck. ------------------ Jeff 1976 911S |

Thanks for the responses guys, but I have tried three local clubs and a few of the better local Porsche mechanics with no luck. I have been looking for a few months and the over 30 cars that were looked at were junk.
Thanks again! |

As referenced in earlier posts, you can expect at least a year of looking for an early "S" and many trips to California if you aren't already here.
Good luck -- the wait is worth it. |

Have you tried Porsche Market Letter or Hemmings Motor News? PML is by subscription only but Hemmings has a searchable web site.

Marc,
Somewhere in the DC area, there is a dealership with a '72 "S" that they want $25K for, and it has records on a bunch of work done on it since '91 or so ... ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Warren, thanks for the info... I will try to find that one.
Lee, thanks for your response but all I have seen is garbage from both up to this point. 1969 911S, thanks for your response as well. For the record.. I spent 3 years looking finding a 1973"S" with every factory option imaginable (17k original miles, original paint, body panels (perfect shut lines) and I have all of the records. I also own a 1971"S" and a 1998 TurboS. My love for these cars is a longtime love affair, which is why I have gotten so frustrated with the early "S" market. It seems as though everyone is telling me where to look, but up until Warren's reference, nobody has had any decent leads. To be honest, I have been looking throughout the US and European markets for numbers matching cars. I found a nice 67"S", in Switzerland, that can be legally imported into this country and they sold it a day later. The market on the early cars has dried up worldwide and I suspect the prices on truly original cars will start to climb over the course of this year. The indication of how serious people are about these cars will happen when the seasons change, but based on European numbers, the early cars should really start to move up over the next 6 months. Thanks again for all of your responses. I am still looking for the right early car. Also, I want to sell the TurboS and if you know anyone that wants one of the rarest Porsches and the last of the air cooled babies, let's talk. Best to all, Marc Weintraub |

Marc,
there is a 73 S coupe for sale here in Oregon that sounds very nice. I have seen it from about 20 feet and it looks very very clean however they want big $$ for it. Call Jay Pomeroy at 503-860-3091 (listed in August Panorama). Good luck. PS: I looked for about 2 years for a 76/77 Carrera 3.0 before I found a decent one. Matt |

Marc,
You probably already have the link but, just in case.... http://www.porsche-classifieds.com/pcd/pcd_911.htm You probably know better than anyone at this point -- what are "S"s selling for these days? I would guess a decent car looks like it is in the 15-20 range, a nice car is 20-25 and concours or low mileage 25+ depending on how perfect. Share your experience? Trouble is for me that, if I ever sell, it will be to trade to a restored 72 or 73 S or RS coupe. So it will always be apples and apples on trade value -- doesn't matter much how much the market goes up price differential will be similar. Regards. |

Hi Matt and 1969_911S,
I know both cars and they weren't what I was looking for, but thanks. I don't remember off the top of my head why, but they were both missing something. Thanks again... the quest continues! Marc W. |

Marc, you might like to contact Mark Waring at World Wide Classics here in the UK. They have a 1972 LHD 2.4S that may be worth checking out. Their website is www.wwclassics.com & the email address is questions@wwclassics.com. Mention my name when you contact Mark.
Hope the info proves useful. Andy Boyle (UK) '69 E [This message has been edited by andyjboy (edited 08-20-2000).] |

Wow, it does look really nice. It says automatic transmission on the description but I could not tell from the pictures if it's a Sportmatic. Also, is that a speaker grill in the back side panel. Was that OEM in '73.

No, if you mean that perforated chrome plate over the forward 'open' half of the door pocket ... DEFINITELY not original!!!
Definitely 5-speed, from Kardex, and clutch pedal clearly visible interior, inside pic! No A/C! That seems to be the only lacking option! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
