H5 question

So after reading about the relay's for the H4 and the H5's I'm confuzed. Do I need the relay in my 89 with H5's? Is the relay for the early cars with the H4's?

Your 89 with H5's doesn't "need" a relay but it is a good idea. The relay isn't model specific - it's a good idea for all Pcars as the OEM system has a flaw which could leave you in the dark sometime. Murphy's law dictates that it will be far from home, at night, when your low on gas in the middle of nowhere and have a job interview in the morning.

Because of the higher wattage in modern bulbs the system can overload. In stock form, all the current from the battery for the headlights is routed through the headlight and the turn signal switches. Eventually the current will melt one or both switches or something else in the system.

Marcus Sucro (do a search) makes a relay that sits between the battery and the switch. It takes the load off the switches prolonging their life.

Here's a good link to read about the H5's. I'm sure there's way more out there if you searched. I know there is a good one for cleaning the lenses too.
