Universal fuel injectors?
Does anyone know if the fuel injectors for a 3.2 Carrera are 'universal' in the same sense that the 3 wire O2 sensors are? What I mean is, can one find a cheaper fuel injector from another car and adapt the fitting to the Porsche? Thanks!

I don't think a 'close' match is going to be good enough this time. It would be very close to impossible to do any 'adapting' to the fuel rail it has to fit very precisely into ... even a mismatch of 1 mm could result in disaster, if, say it was a little too short, and after a week of operation, the O-ring slipped out of place while you are cruising in 5th gear.
In short, any replacement injector BETTER have the same Bosch part number on the box, even if it doesn't have a 'Genuine Porsche' label on the maroon box! There may be a cross to another application for that injector, so be sure to check with an independent Bosch dealer, but I would recommend against trying to use any part that doesn't have a listing in the Bosch catalog for the '84-'89 Carrera! The nice thing about Bosch injection parts these days is that GM, Nissan, Toyota, and others use them, so lots of parts stores carry them! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
