Score! (for NE Los Angeles metric fastener seekers)

Wow what an accidental find!

Do It Best Hardware in Highland Park (5040 York Blvd, LA, 90042) has a fantastic selection of metric hardware, including 10.9 hardened bolts, zinc plated bolts, all kinds of different pitches, nuts, hex head bolts, machine screws, set screws, roll pins, fender washers, split washers, spring washers--the works. Also lots of great Grade 8 stuff if you need it, chrome plated hardware if that's your thing, plus a bunch of other useful bits and bobs.

Best of all: they're open SEVEN days a week, 364 days a year!

Yes! No more standing in my garage frustrated on a Sunday because my savior TRE is closed and so is the other fastener place in Burbank that I can't get motivated to drive to anyway since I work near there. This place is five minutes from my house. So sweet.

If you're anywhere around say Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, S. Pasadena, Glassell Park, Montecito Heights, Elysian Park, Pasadena, etc, you can thank me later!

Pieter,
Wonderful. I'm only 10 minutes away. Thanks for the tip.

Sure thing.

Whereabouts are you?

I know there are at least a few board members in the vicinity. My neighbor, whose daily driver is a 911SC and whose race car is a TR4, is going to be over the moon when he finds out!

That said, I hope I haven't oversold the place. I'm sure there are some sizes and types they don't have, but it sure looks like they have enough to at least get you out of a jam.

They don't have AN/aircraft fasteners though, which I know some race car builders use.

Pieter,
South Pas.. Where are you? Should get a mailing list of those in the area.

Mt. Washington, on Museum Dr., ten minute walk up from the Gold Line stop at the Southwest Museum.

I love S. Pas. A favorite market and nursery are there, just behind the train station. You've got some nice cafes too. Small town feel in a big city!

The mailing list is a good idea.

In another thread a few weeks ago, someone elsewhere in the country mooted the idea of creating local Pelican nodes, or something like that, in which people would trade off helping each other with weekend projects, each contributing the tools and skills they had to help each other. My neighbor and I already do this, on an informal, unscheduled basis, and it's awfully cool and fun to roll my car into his garage (bigger than mine) and work on our cars together.

Anyone else in the area?

Pieter,
I just got back from the hardware store. Very impressive fastener section. However, they have everything locked up. Bad if you want to nose around; good to keep the stock from intermixing. They also have a nice assortment of stainless metric fasteners.

Thanks for the lead.

Yeah, that's right. I forgot about the locks. That's a bit annoying, but in an age of Home Depot shoppers (ever tried to find the right screw at Home Depot?), it's understandable.

I saw the metric stainless fasteners too; forgot to mention those also.

They've also got some super helpful salty characters working in there.

Fellow Early 911S/RGruppe member, Bert, also lives in Mt. Washington. He's also looking (not sure how actively) for a 912. I noticed you're selling or in the process of selling one. PM me and I'll pass it along.

Hi Pieter,

Sherwood told me that we're neigbors in Mt. Washington. I live on Olancha Drive. I have some friends who used to live on Wren on your side of the hill.

I've been to Do It Best hardware for house projects, but I didn't know about the fastener selection. It's a nice neighborhood place with "interesting" help. Salty is a good description. Thanks for the tip.

We should meet with Sherwood for a little car talk sometime.

It looks like you sold the '68 912.

Thanks,
