Mallory vs. MSD

Anybody ever use a Mallory Hyfire unit in place of a MSD unit as a replacement for the stock Bosch CDI box?

I know the 914 crowd uses the Mallory units, but I have never heard of any 911 using the unit. I am considering it and I wonder if anyone else has tried.

The Mallory unit claims to be digital and seems to hook up the same as a MSD unit. The price is lower than the MSD.

I am thinking about putting the unit in my 1981 911SC US Model. The engine is a 3.0 with JE pistons. My plan is the Mallory 6A, a MSD Blaster coil, Magnacor wires, new cap and rotor and I thought I would try to spark plug gapped at .50 and see how it went.

Any thoughts or comments?
