Sway bar bushings
All the rear sway bar bushings on my '72 911S are completely shot. The price from Stoddard and the local Porsche dealer for the sway bar bushings (part# 901.333.793.02) was $39.30 each and I need four! The sway bar ball pin bushings (part# 901.343.782.00) are only $3.75 each. What gives? Why are these bushings so expensive? Are there any alternatives other than the hard plastic ones? I'm reluctant to go with the plastic because I assume they will squeak.

Ugh, the price we pay for these old cars sometimes!
I'm at the tail end of my 70 911E resto, and am planning to have Steve Alaracon (Johnsons Alignment, Torrance CA) rebush, align and balance my suspension. Like yours, most or all of my bushings are totally shot. I replace a couple easy/cheap ones over the years, but it still could be $$ugly$$. One option -- a route I may take -- is to simply toss the stock wimpy swaybars in the shed, and put on some bigger aftermarket ones. I plan to use the Neatrix bushings for the front and rear arms. Probably turbo tie rods also. Chris C. |
