Compression check

What are the acceptable cylinder compression numbers for 911's ??

Early_S_Man 08-31-2000 06:43 PM

That would kind of depend on what your engine's compression ratio is ... they run from 8:1 to 9.8:1. What engine and compression ratio are you speaking of?

3.6 liter - 11:1 I believe.

That is a pretty stout comp. ratio ... My best estimate is that you should expect an average of all six readings to be in the 180 to 225 psi range, and no individual values more than +/- 10% of the average.

When I tested my 3.6 last year at 71k miles the readings were between 178 and 185.

My readings are 195, 190, 195, 200, 210, 200

Hmm, not bad for 115,515 miles. Huh ??

Early_S_Man 09-01-2000 06:26 PM

Not bad at all! A 198 psi mean value, and all readings within the 10% limit.
