Another "whiney" question

I've done some searches, but I'm going to ask:

Is it OK or normal for a 915 trans to have a slight whine or does it mean something is definately wrong.

I only have it on acceleration. If I lift while cruising or acclerating it goes away. Its hard to hear sometimes, mainly first gear, and a little of second.

I have had trannies that have the slightest whine on acceleration.

If it is bad, what do you think it might be. R&P? If so how long can you "live" with this before bad things happen?

Transmission has new 201 oil. Sluge on magnets from old oil. The slightest hint of metalic flakes in old oil (barely visible) but tranny has had 1st and 2nd syncros replaced recently from PO.

Mine does as well. Kinda sounds like some of the video clips of the race cars. Hope it's not bad, I like the sound. If it is a bad thing, I retract my previous statement.

Solid mounts in mine, so I get plenty of whine.

Does it make the sound while stopped in nuetral when you rev up the motor?

Sound change when you depress the clutch?

When I posted about a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound my tranny made, JW got back to me and asked if, while driving along in 2nd gear and then letting up off the gas, did the shift lever move? If so, then it probably was R&P. I tried that, it did that, and it turned out to be R&P. I replaced it right away. How much lomger it would have lasted, I don't know. Thanks again JW.

For reference: I have the reciepts for a complete 915 rebuild shortly before I bought my baby. Now has about 5k miles on rebuild.. No whine or noise at all. Also shifts great, I love it.

Eric
