Hi, after having gone through a similar repair/fix this weekend I can second that the speed-nut option is a good and quick fix. After smoothening the original metal tab in the lamphousing holding the thread I simply mounted a speednut and it was done. Is no permanent fix (permanent in my view is replacing the original tab) - but it solves troubles in the interim.

My 2 cents...

Bumping this thread to see the angle of the tab on a working solution. Also having difficulties keeping the top of the headlight stay hanging.

Sorry I do not have the angle of the tab.
You need to make some pressure to compress the rubber gasket and hang the headlight ring to the small tab in the upper part of the headlight bucket.
