Clutch cable & helper spring

Help! I just replaced my clutch cable and helper spring. (New clutch 2,000 miles ago). I followed the directions from the Pelican article. The pedal action does not seem smooth, it kind of jumps off the floor about 3-4 inches from the bottom. What happens is that the clutch seems to engage all at once - so that it is very difficult to start off from a dead stop - it seems to pop up all at once. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

It seems as though your clutch adjustment is off. You will need to slacken the adjustment for some free play. The adjustment is at the transmision side. Try it and let us know.

There is a secret here I have yet to see a good explanation of. And I've tried in previous posts, not too long ago.

Here's the short explanation: REMOVE the cable from the arm, under the car, that it pulls. Use a BFS (big screwdriver) to wedge that clutch-engagement arm backward, in the opposite direction the cable pulls it. The horseshoe spring, which normally pushes it in the same direction as the cable pulls it, will snap it back in the other direction. THEN make the 1.2 mm acjustment of the little locking screw. Reinstall the cable onto the arm (It could be necessary to adjust the cable at the pedal, but hopefully not). Adjust the cable so that the 1.0 mm measurement is achieved and Viola. The pedal will have a stiff full-return feature and the clutch should operate smoothly at about 1 or 2 inches of pedal depression. Maybe three.

Thanks for the fast reply. It sounds like a helper spring problem. That is the only place where the Pelican article left me hanging. I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to install the new helper spring. I am out of time today, but you have given me hope for a good day tomorrow!
Thanks again!!
