Fog lamps

Should an 83 SC have one or two fog lamps, and what's the correct mounting position?

Cheers

Mine has two, under the bumper. Many photos can be found showing the various cosmetic things. '84 and newer ones are mounted back a bit farther and are more buried in the valence. Mine are kinda low and forward. This does a nice job of getting them scraped on even the shortest parking barriers.

You must be asking about the rear fog lamps??? Of course there are two in the front.

Some cars (Euro) had a single rear one, I think on the left side. There is probably a picture in the B. Johnson book if you have that one.

A rear fog lamp is brighter than a rear light when the cars lights are on but not braking (that makes little sense??), so it is easier to see in the fog.

It is important that the car in front has one when you are bearing down on it on the autobahn at speed

My little Peugeot has one, so they must be a pretty common fitment in Europe (possibly legal requirement, cause the Pug is truely base model).

If you need a pic of the rear, red fog lamp on a european delivery 911, I can send you one....

Mike Z
83 Cab...euro.

BTW, the fog lamp is a good idea in foggy areas....that lamp really shines and when you are doing warp nine down a well marked autobahn in the heavy fog, a bright warning light is a good idea....at least if you are the guy in front and some moron is doing warp 11.....8^)

Mike Z,

Yes, I'd appreciate a pix. I suspect that the one on my car is non-original, it's also mounted very low and gets knocked.

Rear fog lamps are a legal requirement in the UK, I'm surprised they're not in the US. They're a good idea so long as people use them properly (ie in fog), there is a tendency for them to get left on thus annoying people behind.
