steel lug nuts
Does anyone know where I can find a set of steel lug nuts for my 930? I'm installing narrower spacers to compensate for wider wheels therefore making my studs too long for the alloy (closed end) nuts. Wheel Enhancement wants over $100 for a set of 20, I think that's way out of line. Will any VW sizes match the M14x1.5? Thanks, Tom

Tom,
Take a spare M14x1.5 bolt along to your local VW dealer and ask for some lug nuts for a '71 or later Type 2 Bus with front disk brakes, and be sure to test every nut, as I have found VW parts counter types are metric-blind, and not all of the parts in a particular bin are correct! I have a half-dozen of the VW nuts I had cadmium-plated quite a few years ago, and they were only about $1 each. I defy anyone to find a measureable difference between them and the 'correct' P-dealer 900.182.001.01 part at about the $5 price Wheel Enhancement quoted you! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 09-02-2000).] |

Troy - I've done the custom offset a couple of times using the factory long studs and spacers. In order to get the wheel exactly where I wanted it the studs stuck out a bit. I simply cut the end caps off the aluminum nuts with a hacksaw. Works perfect and has not let me down in 10 years of combined use (wheels are 15x12 with 345/35 tires on 930 flairs). If I could have found nuts for a buck I probably would have bought them.

When I installed the steel lug nuts, I first purchased them from Pelican

Thanks guy's, I stopped by the local high performance VW shop here in Vegas and they had cad plated, open ended, steel lug nuts for a buck a piece. They use them on racing sand rails that assuredly take more of a beating then my street car. Thanks again, Tom
