Flag Mirror Motors into Aeros??

Anyone ever put their flag motors into aero mirrors?
I just thought I would ask before I cut any wires.

Also the wires on the drivers side for my 78 are different colors from all of the schematics that I have seen on here.
Any one know which wire connects to which between the 78 and the 993, Thanks J.

Tough questions as the wire colors vary within certain years. Since I've been keeping track I have heard of, but have not seen, a direct wiring scheme for SC/Carrera mirrors to any aero counterpart. I also believe the motor assemblys to be completley different as well.

Can you post the wire colors as the come from your door?

From Door I have Grey/Green, Black/Yellow, White, Blue, Brown and Brown.
Connected to those from the mirror are;
Grey/Green, Black, White, Blue, Brown, Brown.

I have not yet looked at the Pass side yet.

Thanks for your help. Did you ever find any more of your modules? Or are those for Carreras (mid-late 80's)?

The modules are for SCs and Carreras. However there are wiring differences. I did find the extra set.

FWIW, I'm thinking of doing a tech type article on DIY module/wiring.

Thanks, I would love to read it!
In looking at your modules, the connectors are long and norrow, whereas the connectors inside my mirror are round. How do the two jive?

The "module" merely connects via soldered butt joints...not sure what you mean.

Not the module itself, but rather the white connetor, I believe is is the female end I have seen in your pictures. The shape of it is rectangle, but where the door and mirror wires connect inside of the mirror is a round connection.

I guess I may not fully understnd how the module works. Is that extra set for sale?

I will look for the extra set and PM you. The connectors you see allow the existing harness to connect to the mirror with a factory connector via the relay module.

everyone here has been discussing wiring differences- but you can't use the internal guts of the early flag mirrors in a late aero mirror- very different designs!

"I also believe the motor assemblys to be completley different as well."

This is why we're discussing the use of the relay.

Sorry to bring up this old post but what type of relay should I be looking for in hooking up aero mirrors to my '82 SC? After reading most of the older posts I guess the relay wil be 'activated" by the wiring that goes to the clutch in the old mirrors to switch from up/down to side/side action or vice versa? A source for those factory connectors would be great too!

Unless the module can be bought easely through the net, I'm in the Netherlands, Europe, so I'm looking for a place to source the parts or the wiring kit with the relays as a whole.

Thanks,

Ronald

I purcahsed a set from Rick M, but I am not sure if he makes them any more. Otherwise I beleive that Performance Products carries them.
Yeah, I beleive the orginal motors use reverse poarity to change directions. This will not work with the new motors.
As for factory connectors, I am not sure where you can get them. Since my connections were round and the relay connections were square, I had to cut (I know ouch) the doors side and connected 0.69 (i believe) male pins to the wires. Some of the wires had to be piggy-backed together. If you find a wire schematic (shearch here) you will figure out which wires connect to which module wires.
Hope this helps, Jeremy

Thanks for the reply. I didn't find any at Performance Products, I'll keep looking. Maybe I'll PM Rick M for some help, couldn't hurt right?

Thanks, that helped a bit but I only see the modules complete with mirrors. I think I can find a way to make it work using a relay like in RickM's picture. The factory connector in the mirrors I bought were actually VW-Audi parts so I'll try to get 2 of them to keep wiring original inside the mirror. I believe my left mirror has a temperature probe as well but I wouldn't know how or where to hook that up.

Thanks for your help!
