Post pics of ST replicas here...

I was thinking it would be nice to have a thread for each of the common early car modifications. An easy and convenient place where someone could go for ideas if they were planning a project of their own and a place where we could showcase common cars. I will start threads for the R, RS, RSR and ST.

I know the ST thread is going to be short but I hope it will be useful as I know many people are either building ST replicas or at least thinking about it.

My ST started as a '70 T sportomatic and underwent a dramatic transformation!

OK, here's mine before I decided to go to wider rear flares. The 11x17 Lindsey's are too tight under the ST flare.

So, with about 1.5" of spacer

I ended up with

For those of you considering making the jump to flares, these photos give a kinda contrast.

I'll also post a progress photo on the RSR thread.

I think I'm missing something. Why would you put spacers on and THEN have to make even bigger flares?? Isn't the idea of flare to cover the wheels thatyou have?

(Or in the true origins of flares, what the racing organization allows you to run for wheel widths?)

In this case, isn't adding such a huge spacer going to add wear issues to the bearings, possibly create geometry issues, make the car wider than it needs to be, and hurt top speed and aerodynamics?

Jake --> mine is an ever evolving project. Eventually it's primary use will be for SCCA AutoX / Class XP / 10 & 12 x 16" wheels with slicks, thus the larger flares, top end not an issue. XP is a relatively new SCCA invention, prior I was running FP with 8.5 & 9.5 x 15" (max was 10"). Because of the car's dual purpose nature, I'll run the 9.5 & 11 x 17" for street & DE, thus the spacers to fill out the flares. OK!

Ahhh...gotcha. That makes sense....wider eventual wheels = winder flares now, rather than doing it twice.

I used to auto X with SCCA, and now roadrace..but i've never hear of XP....I guess I really am out of that loop, LOL.

Jake --> One of our own (70RSR) won the SCCA SOLOII Nat'ls this year in XP. Really cool & given the nature of SCCA's rule book (naw I won't go there).
