Any tricks for getting torsion bar out of spring plate ???
 

Hey Guy's,

I have to adjust the ride height of my car in the rear. The torsion bar popped out easily on the inside end but I can't seem to pop the spring plate free on its end. I probably wouldn't bother but I'm not getting enough adjustment using just the inner splines. Anyone know a way to pop the spring plate free of the torsion bar?

There are several ingredients needed in this recipe...
-1 Very Large Vise
-1 Pair Mechanix utility gloves
-1 BFT (Big F&$%ing Blowtorch)
-1 BFH (Big F@!&ing Hammer)
-10 Cans PB Blaster (or to taste)
-Liberal supply of curse words and threats

Combine the first five ingredients until all are well coated with torsion bar grease, including of course face, clothing, and family cat. Take care to not damage the orange epoxy coating on the torsion bar, or you will experience torsion bar failure later on. Season by sprinkling entire job with curse words. If you are lucky, this process will dislodge your errant member...err...the torsion bar that is.

Tried holding the bar with vise grips, and prying the plate off the end. No luck. Any other suggestions ?

Drill a hole in the end cap. Get a large hammer and nail set or punch. Insert the punch in the hole and beat on it. If that does not work, tap the hole and try to tread a screw into it. That may push the bar out. Good Luck, this is not a fun job.

Yep that did it.
I just sealed the hole up with an of the shelf rubber plug. Now I just have to set that rear alignment.
