Powder coated Targa bar & new seal
Dropped the Targa bar cover at the powder coaters last week, gave him a call last friday, and he was having problems with it. No Biggie....called again today, I was told he coated it twice and could not get it right and that I would have to have it painted. Then I asked how much for his effort, he said $5 for the paint stripper he used to remove the old finish. Fair enough I said and went to pick up the part.
After getting it home and giving it a good look, it's not bad for $5 there are a few bumps, probably dirt or something, and some other marks on top. But hey he gave it his best shot and was willing to eat the job. Seeing that I gotta get to the Tail of the Dragon in 2 weeks I went and installed it, along with a new rear seal and fancy painted "Targa" script......I think it looks pretty good and will do untill, well untill I get tired of it. Also someone was asking if the rear seal from pelican was the one with the fabric covering. The answer is YES. WHAT YALL THINK? How about this??????

I'd keep it the way it is and buy the powder coater a couple six-packs.

KC, looks great. I really like the two color targa script also. Saw your earlier posting of your targa top redo and wow what a job. Hey on another topic could you send me some pics of your rear speaker deck. I'm replacing mine and would like to see what an original one looks like. Also I need some pics of how your rear window fits up against the targa bar. Mine looks a little off center.
Thanks

freshly painted targa bar
Just had mine painted. Single stage semi-flat. Its really not a fun task to install the painted roll bar and new seal...
I have a second identical panted targa bar if anyones interested. never installed since the new paint. Flawless.

I hope you gave him a decent tip. Sounds like he worked pretty hard for $5.00 . Thats alot cheaper than "fair enough".
As for looks its just fine with paint. And its easy to touch up that way too. Looks like he used semi gloss. Kurt Williams

I just bought my first Porsche ('86 Targa) for my 50th and what a ride. Anyway, the job you did on the roll bar looks great and I would like to have mine reppainted, too. How hard is it to remove and replace the item? Do you have to replace the seal? If anyone can give me a step by step, I would greatly appreciate it. I am not too mechanically inclined and if this is too difficult, i have to send it to the shop to have it done. Thank guys for all the info posting. I am learning a lot about my new toy.
